BYU snapped a two-game losing streak with a 21-19 victory over the Pac-12’s Washington State on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to get them back in the top 25.
The Cougars (6-2) received 42 votes in the latest USA Today Coaches poll released Sunday, effectively ranking BYU in a tie with UL Lafayette for No. 26 in the country and 31 votes behind No. 25 NC State. The Cougars received 23 votes in the Coaches poll last week.
Utah (4-3), meanwhile, received one vote after losing 42-34 to Oregon State. The Utes received 35 votes last week and were only two spots out of the top 25 in the Coaches poll a week ago. The Beavers received 13 votes and are effectively ranked tied for No. 32.
Virginia (6-2), BYU’s opponent this week, received 23 votes in the Coaches poll and is effectively ranked No. 31.
One team jumped into the Coaches top 25 after not being ranked last week: Iowa State vaulted to No. 23 after handing Oklahoma State its first loss of the year (the Cowboys fell to No. 15).
Oregon continues to be the only Pac-12 team in the rankings, moving up two spots to No. 8 following a 34-31 win over UCLA.
Georgia stayed at No. 1, while Cincinnati and Alabama jumped one spot each to No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Oklahoma dropped to No. 4 following a close win over Kansas. Ohio State stayed at No. 5.
