From Baby Yoda to Pikachu and Eevee, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is ready to kick off the holiday season
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an equally important ritual as the Thanksgiving dinner for some. It’s been a holiday tradition for close to 100 years.
This year, “Macy’s has created a spectacle to remember featuring a dazzling array of high-flying balloons, animated floats and incredible performers,” said Will Coss, the executive producer of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, in a press release.
The parade will feature 15 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 36 novelty and heritage inflatables, more than 800 clowns, 10 marching bands and nine performance groups, a host of musical stars, and the one-and-only Santa Claus, according to Macy’s.
That is not all — six balloons will be making their debut:
Ada Twist, scientist by Netflix
Ada is an 8-year-old girl who asks big questions and tries to discover the truth, per Netflix. This version of Ada “is as big as her giant-sized curiosity,” said Macy’s.
Funko Pop! Inspired Grogu
Grogu, also known as Baby Yoda from the Star Wars’ “The Mandalorian,” is bound to be a fan favorite.
Ronald McDonald by McDonald’s USA
As per the archives, Ronald McDonald first appeared in the parades in 1987. But the 2021 edition is a new design that features Ronald holding a heart, sharing the “extra love and smiles,” per Macy’s.
Pikachu and Eevee by the Pokémon International Company
Pokémon returns with a new balloon for its 25th anniversary. “A celebration is better with friends, so this design features not only Pikachu but Eevee, too,” said Macy’s.
Tiptoe by Macy’s
This year, Tiptoe is coming as a balloon puppet, with a head that bobs and legs that move, said Macy’s. This is the first-ever balloon puppet to participate in the parade.
Toni the Bandleader Bear by Macy’s
The “beary big balloon” was named after the parade pioneer Tony Sarg. Toni was created by the Macy’s studio team to show “everyone how to march to their own beat,” per Marcy’s.
When to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade
The parade will air on Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon EST on NBC.
- It will also be available to stream on Peakcock and Telemundo.
