High school boys basketball: 2021 Class 4A team-by-team preseason capsules

The 2021-2022 high school boys basketball season gets underway this week for 6A, 5A and 4A teams after the conclusion of the football season this past weekend. To prepare fans for the upcoming season, the Deseret News has put together capsules for every team in 4A. Every coach was invited to participate and submit information.

The region rankings are based on coaches preseason projections.

There are three new head basketball coaches in 4A this year: Logan Brown (Green Canyon), Mitch Argyle (Logan) and Chandler Smith (Mountain Crest.

Here are the 4A teams and players to watch this upcoming season.


Region 10

1. Dixie Flyers

2021-2022 schedule

Head coach: Tyler Roberts (fourth year).

2020-2021 record: 19-5 (first in Region 9 with a 12-2 record).

2021 RPI ranking: No. 2 in 4A.

2021 postseason: Lost to Ridgeline, 62-60, in the 4A quarterfinals.

Returning starters: None.

2. Cedar City Reds

Head coach: Mark Esplin (third year).

2020-2021 record: 19-6 (tied for second in Region 9 with a 10-4 record).

2021 RPI ranking: No 6 in 4A.

2021 postseason: Beat Desert Hills, 64-59, in the 4A championship.

3. Snow Canyon Warriors

Head coach: Doug Meacham (fourth year).

2020-2021 record: 16-8 (fifth in Region 9 with an 8-6 record).

2021 RPI ranking: No 8 in 4A.

2021 postseason: Lost to Juan Diego, 64-39, in the 4A quarterfinals.

Returning starters: Two.

Returning contributors:

4. Crimson Cliffs Mustangs

5. Desert Hills Thunder

2. Green Canyon Wolves

4. Logan Grizzlies

Head coach: Mitch Argyle (first year).

2020-2021 record: 14-7 (third in Region 11 with a 6-4 record).
