COVID-19 is having a major impact on sports around the holiday season. Count the New Orleans Saints among those hit hard by the pandemic.
Multiple news outlets reported Thursday that both Saints quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian will be placed on the COVID-19/reserve list ahead of the team’s critical Monday night matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that New Orleans is preparing to start rookie quarterback Ian Book in place of Hill in the Saints’ game against Miami.

Hill, the former BYU star dual-threat QB, has started New Orleans’ past three games and led the Saints — who at 7-7 are fighting to stay in the playoff race — to a 2-1 record.
While Hill has been underwhelming as a passer during this stretch — he’s completed 52% of his passes for 593 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions — he’s ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
In the team’s most recent game, the Saints’ defense shut down the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 9-0 contest bereft of offensive highlights.
If Book starts Monday, he will be the Saints’ fourth starting quarterback this season. Earlier this year, Siemian replaced Jameis Winston as the Saints’ starter after Winston suffered a torn ACL. Siemian went 0-4 as the starter before being replaced by Hill.
Book, who played collegiately at Notre Dame, was a fourth-round pick by the Saints in the 2021 NFL draft. He hasn’t played a regular-season snap this year.
Taysom Hill reportedly headed to COVID-19 list. Who will start in his place?
